We're Glad You Came Home!

To say that it was a pretty good turnout is underestimating the incredible turnout that all of you, the 127 alumni (yes, 127!), brought to the most successful Homecoming Reunion that has been seen at SFVA since graduating its first senior class in 1960.  The weekend was exciting and froth with wonderful memories of times gone by and with many promises for future years to come at our beloved Alma Mater.

Friday Evening a small group of alumni joined the current Academy choir for rehearsal in preparation for the songs to sing during the Worship Hour on Sabbath, as well as for the musical concert in the afternoon.  We were able to relive some of the choral music we sang in years gone by and also learn some of the songs that were sung during the current chool year.  The night was topped off with pizza and fellowship.

Saturday morning started with a Fellowship Brunch where we all got to connect and reconnect with former classmates, stroll down memory lane, and, of course, look at those pictures which we all smirked at saying, "I looked like that?"  By 10:30 a.m. the gymnasium was full with over 350 alumni, parents, teachers - present and past - and we all joined voices as we we sang "praise songs" from the 60's all the way thru the 2000's.

The non-conventional Worship Hour allowed us to acknowledge the 127 alumni individually and the 10 honored classes '63, '68, '73, '78, '83, '88, '93, '98, '03 - who came up to the stage proudly representing their graduation year. We all congratulated the class of 2008 as our newest alumni.  A highlight of the Worship Hour was Mr. Gardner, the current principal, moderating a panel of former alumns and teachers reliving their years at SFVA, how the Academy and their Christian education experience has impacted their lives, and what they're up to now.  Debbie (Van Stee) Harms '73 shared with us her recent experiences while on a mission trip and challenged us to have our own neighborhods, churches and schools, be the mission fields we cultivate.  The Class of  '78 presented Mr. Gardner with a BIG check in the amount of $1,978 to help toward the much needed painting of our school, and a challenge went out from them to any other class to do the same!

The 10-Course Catered Hot Lunch
was scrumptuous and one in which everyone went through the line more than once...I'm sure!  The "Welcome Home" cake gave us an opportunity to gather round and take the fabulous picture below which each of you can download, frame and keep to look at for many years to come!

The Music Concert at Northridge Church in the afternoon welcomed even more alumni who were not able to attend the morning services, and featured the Alumni Mass Choir, solos, duets, and more.... and will continue to be a tradition at Alumni Homecoming Weekends honoring the great music ucation that all of received while at SFVA.  Next year Mr. Michael Spencer will be our Music Director for Alumni Homecoming Weekend 2009Don't miss the opportunity to have him lead us in music!

Saturday night's traditional basketball game was a great place where the younger alumni displayed their talents and made us all proud!

You won't wont miss the full weekend we have planned for Homecoming 2009!  We'll see you April 3-5!
