High School The High School at San Fernando Valley Academy is where adolescents become independent, confident young adults. The High School experience ensures that the first step into the world beyond SFVA will also be a step up on the ladder of success. Although there is great emphasis on the final result, we do not lose sight of the journey. The traditional, academic program demands much of its students. The rigorous program concentrates on the development of the ability to reason, reach independent conclusions, and apply knowledge and skills learned in one discipline to another. Beyond the academic sphere and its requirements, SFVA recognizes the need for students to interact, interrelate, and contribute to the school community. Students are given the oppurtunity to participate in the arts program with music classes being exhibition and performance based. The sports program offers many opportunities. Our teams work hard together, with the focus on skill development and competition. During their final four years, we ask students to look beyond SFVA– to contribute to the ‘common good.’ Community service is found on and away from campus. We have clear expectations for every student in the High School, but we encourage each one to take responsibility for shaping his or her goals. We want to ensure that each member of every graduating class has a wealth of diverse learning experiences as he and she move closer to their goal for success in college and in life. |
